OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental – Music, movement, and Misamisnon pride filled the streets as Governor Henry S. Oaminal joined thousands of residents for the 39th Inug-og Festival, one of Northern Mindanao’s longest-running cultural celebrations.
The annual festival showcased the city’s unique identity through street dancing and ritual performances, with seven contingents representing Oroquieta’s diverse communities. Governor Oaminal, together with Mayor Lemuel Meyrick M. Acosta, Vice Mayor Aurora Virginia Almonte, and city officials, led the celebration that honored both heritage and unity.
In his message, Oaminal praised the local government and performers for preserving Oroquieta’s cultural legacy and promoting tourism across the province. He called the festival a reflection of Misamis Occidental’s shared vision of “Asenso”—a collective pursuit of progress rooted in faith, hard work, and community spirit.
“Sa tanang ni-apil—daog na mo! Ang inyong pasundayag nakahatag ug kalipay sa katawhan ug garbo sa atong kultura,” Oaminal said, recognizing the effort and creativity behind every performance.
To show his support, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental granted ₱67,000 each to the seven contingents—a gesture that highlighted the province’s commitment to nurturing local talent and cultural programs.
The Inug-og Festival, derived from the Subanen word meaning “to move or shake,” symbolizes the joy and rhythm of Oroquieta’s people. More than a spectacle, it has become a stage for unity and pride, where tradition meets modern expression.
Governor Oaminal also invited festival-goers to the upcoming Grand Perangat Festival on November 8, which will mark the 96th Founding Anniversary of Misamis Occidental. The event is expected to gather delegations from across the province to celebrate the Asenso vision of peace, prosperity, and happiness for every Misamisnon.
From the beats of the drums to the vibrant colors of the streets, Oroquieta’s 39th Inug-og Festival was not just a celebration of culture—it was a reminder that unity remains at the heart of Misamis Occidental’s progress.
