OZAMIZ CITY, Philippines — Governor Henry S. Oaminal said Misamis Occidental is now ready for the upcoming activities of the Miss Universe Philippines 2026, which will be held in the province from April 21 to 26.
In recent photo updates, Governor Oaminal shared the province’s preparations for the event. He said this is a good chance to show the beauty of Misamis Occidental and the kindness of its people.
“This is our opportunity to showcase our tourism sites and the warm hospitality of every Misamisnon,” Oaminal said.
He added that the opportunity came after the organizers of Miss Universe Philippines reached out to the province.
“Miss Universe Philippines approached us and informed us of their desire to have these preliminary activities and to find a local partner LGU. With that, we feel honored, considering the big impact it will have on the province of Misamis Occidental and the whole Northern Mindanao,” he said.
Oaminal also explained that the organizers had their own standards in choosing a host.
“Sila ang nag-set sa ilang kaugalingong criteria in getting a local partner, local government unit,” he added.
The governor said the province is fortunate to have been selected.
“We are fortunate that this year 2026, Northern Mindanao—particularly the province of Misamis Occidental—was chosen to be the host,” he said.
The event is expected to bring visitors, candidates, and media groups to the province. Local officials hope this will help promote different tourist spots and attract more visitors in the future.
Oaminal also said the preparations are not done by the provincial government alone. Many groups are working together, including local government units, national agencies, and private partners.
The week-long event is seen as more than just a pageant. For Misamis Occidental, it is a chance to be known, attract tourists, and support local growth.
