The Ozamiz City Council recently conducted a public hearing to discuss two proposed ordinances that could bring transformative changes to the city. Led by Majority Floor Leader Councilor Atty. Mars Tapayan, the session aimed to gather input from stakeholders on the "Uniform Rates for Barangay Taxes, Fees, and Charges Ordinance" and the "Ozamiz City Healthcare Waste Management Ordinance." The hearing brought together barangay officials, business sector representatives, and healthcare facility owners to address community and environmental needs.
The Uniform Rates for Barangay Taxes, Fees, and Charges Ordinance proposes standardizing fees across all barangays for services like certification issuance. This measure seeks to establish fair and transparent collection practices, allowing each barangay to have consistent revenue streams, which are essential for local services and community development. The ordinance is expected to simplify processes for business owners who rely on efficient permit applications, creating a one-stop-shop system that benefits both the barangays and the business sector.
Engr. Borje of the City Solid Waste Environmental Management Office (SWEMO) presented the second ordinance, which focuses on healthcare waste management. The Ozamiz City Healthcare Waste Management Ordinance aims to regulate the disposal of hazardous waste generated by clinics, laboratories, and pharmacies. With strict guidelines on handling medical waste, the ordinance seeks to protect public health and the environment from harmful exposure to biohazardous materials. Proper disposal measures will mitigate the risks associated with healthcare waste, promoting safety for the Ozamiz community.
Under the Asenso Ozamiz administration led by Mayor Indy Oaminal, the city is dedicated to fostering sustainable and equitable governance. These proposed ordinances underscore the administration's commitment to enhancing public services and protecting natural resources. Councilor Atty. Tapayan assured the public of the Council's diligence in deliberating these ordinances, with a goal of passing them before the year's end.
