MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 149,000 Filipinos gained access to solar-powered solutions through CARD, Inc.’s Solar Loan program from August 2025 to July 2026.
The program allows clients to purchase solar-powered products from Hybrid Social Solutions through financing, making clean energy options more accessible to households and small businesses.
The initiative reached communities across several regions, including Palawan, Mindoro, Bicol, Visayas, Cebu, and parts of Mindanao.
For households previously dependent on kerosene lamps, solar-powered lighting provides a cleaner and safer alternative for everyday activities.
Solar devices may also help households manage electricity expenses while supporting the use of renewable energy in communities.
The initiative earned CARD, Inc. the Microfinance Impact Maker Award from Hybrid Social Solutions on August 12, 2026.
CARD, Inc. Executive Director Vicente Briones Jr. said the recognition reflects the purpose of the Solar Loan service—to help clients acquire and use solar-powered devices and gain access to clean, sustainable energy.
Three CARD unit offices were also recognized under the Impact Maker Awards 2026: Aborlan 1 and Culion 1 in Palawan, which placed first and second, and Sablayan 3 in Occidental Mindoro, which placed third.
The awards were presented during the 9th Annual Hybrid Impact Network Fellowship & Recognition Night in Malate, Metro Manila, highlighting how microfinance can also help communities access cleaner energy technologies.
