OZAMIZ CITY, Philippines — Governor Henry S. Oaminal is placing culture, hospitality, and quality of life at the center of Misamis Occidental’s development narrative, as the province moves to redefine its image beyond tourism.

While the promotion of tourist destinations remains a priority, Oaminal emphasized that equal importance is being given to showcasing the rich culture and welcoming nature of Misamisnons.

“Aside from the promotion of these tourist destinations, ma-promote pud ang rich culture og hospitality of the people of Misamis Occidental,” Oaminal said.

The initiative forms part of a broader program aimed at transforming how the province is perceived — not only in terms of physical growth and infrastructure, but also in the overall quality of life of its residents.

“Gabuhat mi og program nga among ma-usab ang among imahe sa Misamis Occidental not only on our physical growth and development, kun dili ang asenso nga pamuyo sa mga tao,” he added.

Central to this effort is the provincial government’s “5Ms mantra,” which underscores its development vision: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon.

The mantra reflects the administration’s goal of fostering a province where residents live in peace, experience economic progress, and enjoy a sense of happiness and well-being.

Oaminal, who also chairs the Regional Development Council in Northern Mindanao, emphasized that sustainable development must go beyond visible infrastructure and translate into meaningful improvements in people’s lives.

With this approach, the provincial government aims to position Misamis Occidental not only as a destination for visitors, but as a community defined by inclusive growth and a high quality of living for its people.
