Iligan City, Lanao del Norte – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Lanao del Norte has intensified its support for Summer Juice Manufacturing, a local calamansi juice processor, as it works towards full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The initiative aims to ensure that the company’s plant layout and design meet regulatory standards, aligning with national food safety requirements.
The collaboration, spearheaded by DOST Lanao del Norte and Summer Juice Manufacturing’s owner and Nutritionist-Dietician Welbert Ronquillo, began in November 2024 with an in-depth orientation session. During the session, DOST introduced the company to the essential plant requirements needed for GMP compliance. This served as the foundation for subsequent improvements in the facility’s layout and design.
Construction and enhancements to the manufacturing facility kicked off in December, with DOST providing technical guidance to align the plant's design with food safety standards. This step is critical for Summer Juice Manufacturing as it pursues a License to Operate (LTO) as a food manufacturer from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The hands-on consultancy demonstrates DOST’s commitment to assisting local businesses in elevating their operations to meet industry standards. By ensuring GMP compliance, the initiative not only bolsters the company’s ability to secure regulatory approval but also enhances its competitiveness in the market.
DOST’s active role underscores the importance of government support in promoting food safety and fostering local economic growth. For Summer Juice Manufacturing, the partnership marks a significant milestone in its journey to becoming a trusted calamansi juice producer, setting a standard for small-scale food manufacturers in the region.
With DOST’s guidance, Summer Juice Manufacturing is expected to complete its facility upgrades soon, moving closer to securing its LTO and strengthening its foothold in the industry.
