OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental —
The long-envisioned modernization of the Ozamiz City Airport is finally taking
flight, as key officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Civil
Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) joined local leaders for an
inspection of the development site—signaling renewed momentum for one of
Northern Mindanao’s most anticipated infrastructure projects.
Governor Henry S. Oaminal,
together with 2nd District Representative Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal and
Ozamiz City Mayor Sam Norman Fuentes, welcomed DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation
and Airports Capt. Jim Sydiongco, CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario,
Deputy Director General Atty. Danjun Lucas, and their team during the visit,
which highlighted the progress and ongoing works under the ₱1-billion airport
modernization program.
Originally initiated during
Governor Oaminal’s term as Congressman, the project encompasses the
construction of a new terminal building, extension and widening of the runway,
and improvements in the apron and airfield facilities—designed to meet
international aviation standards and support the province’s economic ambitions.
The modernization includes
several key components:
• Continuation of the apron concreting project
worth ₱30 million
• The Ozamiz Airport Development Project (Phase
1) valued at ₱285.30 million
• Continuation of the new passenger terminal
building (Phase 1) amounting to ₱223.60 million
• Asphalt overlay of the runway and shoulder
grade correction (Phase 2) with combined allocations of ₱455 million
Governor Oaminal, alongside Reps.
Ando and Indy Oaminal, has been instrumental in addressing previous site
acquisition issues and ensuring additional funding for the continuation of the
project. Their united leadership under Asenso Misamis Occidental has kept the
modernization agenda aligned with the province’s goal of building stronger
infrastructure and expanding connectivity across Mindanao.
With CAAP’s commitment and the
local government’s support, the upgraded Ozamiz Airport is envisioned to become
a strategic gateway for tourism, trade, and investment, catalyzing inclusive
growth for Misamis Occidental and its neighboring provinces.
The modernization of the Ozamiz Airport stands as more than just an infrastructure upgrade—it represents a shared vision of progress, connectivity, and opportunity for every Misamisnon.
