A heartfelt moment of gratitude filled the air as 72-year-old Concordia "Cording" S. Bayer, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Carmen Annex, received a much-needed wheelchair from the office of Mayor Atty. Indy Oaminal. This gesture of kindness came as part of Mayor Indy’s ongoing commitment to serving the elderly and vulnerable sectors of Ozamiz.
The story began on March 24, when Nanay Cording tragically fell while walking after attending church, leading to a serious injury. After the fall, she initially received only minimal care, with no immediate medical attention. It was later discovered during a check-up at the Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center (MHARSMC) that she had sustained a dislocated spinal column. Unfortunately, due to her age, she was advised not to undergo surgery.
In her struggle, Nanay Cording reached out to Mayor Indy Oaminal through a heartfelt letter, seeking assistance to acquire a wheelchair. She shared her difficulty in moving around and her reliance on others for basic mobility.
Within days, the Mayor’s office responded to her plea. On Friday, November 15, 2024, a team from the city government, including Executive Assistant to the Mayor for Barangay Affairs John Docdor, Carmen Annex Punong Barangay Nelson Canumay, and City Health Office representative Daisy Maghanoy, delivered a wheelchair from the Department of Health directly to Nanay Cording’s home.
"I am deeply grateful to Mayor Indy and the Oaminal family for their kindness and for always looking out for the people of Ozamiz," Nanay Cording expressed through tears of joy. "This wheelchair will make a huge difference in my daily life."
Mayor Indy Oaminal’s quick response to Nanay Cording’s request is a reflection of his ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly and underserved communities in Ozamiz City. Through his “Alagang Oaminal” initiative, Mayor Indy ensures that residents, especially senior citizens, receive the care and assistance they deserve.
The Oaminal family’s dedication to public service is evident in their hands-on approach to addressing the needs of Ozamiznons, fostering a community where no one is left behind.
